Excerpts from a Cat's Diary
===========================

Day 983 of my captivity.

My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects.

They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while the other inmates and I are fed hash or some sort of dry nuggets. Although I make my contempt for the rations perfectly clear, I nevertheless must eat something in order to keep up my strength. The only thing that keeps me going is my dream of escape. In an attempt to disgust them, I once again vomit on the carpet.

Today I decapitated a mouse and dropped its headless body at their feet. I had hoped this would strike fear into their hearts, since it clearly demonstrates what I am capable of. However, they merely made condescending comments about what a "good little hunter" I am. Bastards!

There was some sort of assembly of their accomplices tonight. I was placed in solitary confinement for the duration of the event. However, I could hear the noises and smell the food. I overheard that my confinement was due to the power of "allergies." I must learn what this means, and how to use it to my advantage. Today I was almost successful in an attempt to assassinate one of my tormentors by weaving around his feet as he was walking. I must try this again tomorrow -- but at the top of the stairs.

I am convinced that the other prisoners here are flunkies and snitches. The dog receives special privileges. He is regularly released - and seems to be more than willing to return. He is obviously retarded. The bird has got to be an informant. I observe him communicate with the guards regularly. I am certain that he reports my every move. My captors have arranged protective custody for him in an elevated cell, so he is safe. For now...

Well adjusted?

I can always tell when Mitch is happy. He makes up little songs and sings them all day. This morning he came out with this little gem:

"Redneck children hang out at the bar,

have a couple root beers and a cigar..."

Doing Things the Old Fashioned Way

Mother's Day

A Legacy is –
Anything handed down from, or as from an ancestor.
My children are - My Legacy
Which I send to a time, I will not see
Whose children, will only Hear about me.
-*-
Love the Lord your God with ...
all your heart - all your soul - all you might.

And these words shall be on your heart.

Teach them diligently to your children & your grand-children.
Talk of them ...
when you sit in your house
when you walk by the way
when you lie down and
when you rise.
- Deuteronomy 6

Words from an email forwarded by a friend, pic is of Tesch babies in 1936 (Mae is the mom in the middle holding baby 'Grampa Gary').

Tastes Like Chicken

Little did I know back in the summer of 2000 that I had given birth to Elmer Fudd. My son seems to have really taken to life in the country. He shot a rabbit in our backyard with his BB gun while guarding the garden! Gerry cooked it up "French style" (heavy creme and cognac) and the two of them gobbled it up...especially Mitch! He was very proud of himself. I, on the other hand, tried to swallow a bite so as not to discourage him, but I really couldn't bring myself to actually chew it. With all you read these days about mechanized poultry and beef production, that little rabbit was probably the cleanest, safest meat to eat (especially since it had gotten fat from our organic garden!). Still and all...make mine a burger.

Young Entrepeneurs

Mitch and his friends made $6 each selling strawberry plants over the weekend. There are weekend soccer games in the field behind the house, so they set up to take advantage of the traffic.

Future entrepeneurs or American Idol judges?

Trip to Jamestown

Most of the pictures are self explanatory except, perhaps, for the weird black object in a couple of them. This would be our new pet baby turtle, Zippy. Finding Zippy at Jamestown was the highlight of the whole trip!

Our Wonderful Rain Barrels

This is the rain barrel system Gerry set up. He used food grade vinegar barrels and pvc to link it all together. He attached the downspout from off the back of the garage and added a spigot to the pvc. He will post later with the details. One good night of rain fills all five barrels! We also need to get some good pictures up of the garden since things are really starting to pop!

Happy Birthday to my honey!

Today is Gerry's birthday! Mitch and I both love birthdays so we have big plans for honoring Gerry with a special dinner and birthday cake. Gerry is not so crazy about birthdays, but we are hoping to convert him!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY GERRY/DAD!

We love you!

Trying our hand at blogging

I have been so encouraged by reading others' blogs, I thought I'd try my hand at my own. Well, actually, our own since this is a spot to post pictures and happenings within our family. Our main objectives were to chronicle the events in our household and homeschool, as well as our commentary on just about anything that crosses our minds and to share this information with our families.

So, while we are figuring out the how and the what of it, here is a little video you might enjoy. I got this from a post on Michael Pink's blog (http://www.sellingamongwolves.com/). He sees it as proof that we are all seeking something good and pure...
